Dr. Gill is committed to wellness and believes that PREVENTION of disease is just as important as treating disease. She has completed an extensive training program with the
Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi and the
ACT
Center (A Comprehensive Tobacco Center) on tobacco cessation. Tobacco has a direct link to the mouth's health. In
addition to oral cancer, tobacco involves the gums and soft tissues,
which in turn impacts loss of tooth attachment and the long-term
success of any dental treatment. In
Mississippi approximately 23.5% of adults smoke cigarettes. In addition, 4.3% of adults currently use smokeless or spit tobacco. A recent survey also discovered that in
Mississippi, 6.8% of our youth (grades 9-12) currently use smokeless tobacco. Like cigarette smoking, smokeless or spit tobacco use can result in addiction to nicotine. If you are a current tobacco user and would like help in quitting, our team has the knowledge to assist you. Please take the time to answer the
tobacco questionnaire
if you are interested.
